Monona to Mendota

In the early 90’s I lived in Madison, WI. So much happened during these few years that shaped my life. Among the milestones is a number of lessons in Vipassana from Mare. She is a beautiful human, an incredible teacher and I am blessed to have had the chance to study with her. She brought forth the concept of the mind as net. During our lucid, waking hours the net is tightly woven and thoughts are trapped in the matrix. In meditation, as Mare explained, we attempt to open up the netting, widening the gaps and witnessing thoughts as they pass through the net. No attachment. No judgement.

There is a stream that connects the two primary lakes of Madison, Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. This stone balance is near Mare’s abode, an homage to a teacher and an offering to a place that provided a haven from a storm and a launch pad for the West.
